SARAWAK Metro Sdn Bhd views raising public awareness of hydrogen as a key responsibility in its mission to promote the 'fuel of the future.'
Sarawak Metro Chief Executive Officer Mazli Mustaffa, in a statement today, said public engagements serve as one of the main platforms for spreading awareness about hydrogen technology and its role in the future of transportation.
"Through these events, we are presented with an invaluable opportunity to share the latest updates on our Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project. More importantly, we are able to showcase some of the most recent advancements in hydrogen technology, particularly within public transport, that are taking place globally," he explained.
Mazli added, "These developments are truly inspiring and motivating for all of us at Sarawak Metro, and I hope they inspire those we meet during these engagements as well."
His remarks came as Sarawak Metro participated as a speaker at the 'Ecofrontiers: Tech That Saves The Planet 2025' programme, organised by Petrosains earlier today.
Mazli said one of the notable developments in hydrogen mobility was India's recent announcement regarding the upcoming launch of "the most powerful hydrogen train," a groundbreaking milestone in sustainable railway technology.
He went on to mention that countries like South Korea, China, and Japan remain significant sources of inspiration for Sarawak Metro, given their continued efforts in advancing the hydrogen economy as part of their journey toward achieving net-zero emissions.
The CEO noted significant progress in the global hydrogen economy and hydrogen mobility is being made in Europe and the Americas, with new milestones being reached regularly.
"While we closely monitor the developments in the industry, we also recognise that some countries, regions, cities, or organisations may not yet be fully prepared to adopt this zero-emission technology.
We fully understand that each of them faces its own unique challenges, and as such, it would not be fair to directly compare their situations with ours here in Sarawak," he added. - March 15, 2025
