MALAYSIA has invited British technology firms to collaborate in shaping a dynamic digital future for the country, with Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo positioning Malaysia as a regional innovation and investment hub.

Speaking at the UK-Malaysia Digital Gateway Forum in London as part of London Tech Week, Gobind called on UK tech businesses to partner with Malaysia to accelerate the development of emerging technologies and sustainable digital growth.

“Malaysia is open for innovation. Our vision is anchored on three critical enablers—world-class infrastructure, trusted data governance, and institutional trust. These are the foundations that make Malaysia a prime destination for high-value tech investment in the region,” he said in a statement.

He emphasised Malaysia’s readiness to be a key regional player in digital transformation, underpinned by strong policy support and increasing global engagement.

London Tech Week has provided Malaysia with a strategic platform to explore cooperation in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) governance, smart cities, and digital sustainability, areas in which the country is seeking to lead.

Reaffirming Malaysia’s ambition to become a forward-looking digital hub, Gobind said the nation is committed to fostering international partnerships that will drive inclusive, future-ready and high-impact growth.

He also shared Malaysia’s latest digital investment achievements, noting a positive trajectory in the first quarter of 2025.

“During this period, 107 new companies were approved under the Malaysia Digital framework, representing a combined investment value of RM13.1 billion (GBP2.3 billion). These investments are expected to generate 4,199 new jobs over the next five years,” he said.

Gobind extended invitations to UK companies to participate in key upcoming events, including the ASEAN Malaysia AI Summit in August 2025, and the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur in September 2025. - June 11, 2025
