THE Securities Commission Malaysia has appointed Datuk Manoj Kurup as its new Executive Director of Enforcement, effective April 8, marking a key leadership transition in the country’s capital markets regulator.

He succeeds Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, who was recently appointed as a judicial commissioner of the High Court of Malaya on April 1.

Manoj brings more than three decades of legal and prosecutorial experience, having begun his career in 1990.

He previously served as Head of the Prosecution Division at the Attorney-General’s Chambers prior to his retirement in 2024, and also held senior roles including Head of the Appeals Division.

His career includes involvement in high-profile international matters, notably as part of Malaysia’s prosecution team in the joint investigation into the Malaysia Airlines MH17 tragedy.

He has also served as a board member of the Malaysian Highway Authority.

Manoj holds a Master of Laws in Prosecutions from the University of Wollongong, a Bachelor of Laws from the Polytechnic of Wales, and is a Barrister-at-Law of Gray’s Inn in London.

He also holds a Diploma in Mediation from the Asian International Arbitration Centre.

Welcoming the appointment, Securities Commission chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi said, “Manoj brings with him deep legal expertise and leadership to the SC. His extensive experience will further strengthen our enforcement efforts as we continue to uphold market integrity and protect investors.”

He also paid tribute to Manoj’s predecessor, adding, “We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Budiman for his dedicated services and contributions to the SC since July 2022.”

The appointment comes as the Securities Commission continues to enhance its regulatory capabilities amid evolving market complexities, with enforcement remaining central to safeguarding investor confidence and ensuring the integrity of Malaysia’s capital markets. - April 8, 2026
