PETROLIAM Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and its partners have finalised the investment decision for Phase 2 of the LNG Canada project in Kitimat, British Columbia.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision would pave the way for CA$33 billion in private-sector investment.
The expansion will increase LNG Canada’s production capacity and strengthen its ability to supply liquefied natural gas to international markets.
Anwar congratulated Petronas on the decision, saying the national oil company’s involvement in major energy projects with international partners reflected confidence in Malaysian expertise and capabilities.
“Congratulations to the entire Petronas team on this achievement.
“The ability of our national company to undertake large-scale energy projects with international partners also reflects confidence in Malaysia’s expertise and capabilities,” he said in a social media post.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, thanked Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for his support for Petronas.
He also said he looked forward to meeting Carney and a Canadian delegation in the future to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation between Malaysia and Canada.
“I look forward to meeting PM Carney and the Canadian delegation in the future to strengthen our friendship and expand Malaysia-Canada cooperation,” he said. – September 30, 2026
