KUALA LUMPUR – Maxis Bhd today announced that it has fully met its 2020 targets under the National Digital Networking (Jendela) plan, accounting for more than 35% of total upgrades at 16,367 sites.
The company, in a statement, said it built more than 150 sites and completed upgrades at over 5,500 others in key market centres across the country, continuing its commitment to strengthening the 4G network.
“At the same time, Maxis has continued to expand its fibre footprint with more than 6,500 premises passed in 2020.”
Chief executive Gokhan Ogut said the firm’s vision is to build the best network for the nation, bringing together the best technologies to enable Malaysia to stay ahead.
“We continue to invest significantly in our network to support people’s increasingly sophisticated digital lifestyles.”
Maxis said it will stay focused on optimising its network in anticipation of the continuing surge in internet traffic this year, and that it will also accelerate the expansion of 4G coverage in rural and other underserved areas.
“Maxis will roll out fibre in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Penang and Johor, with a greater focus on rural and remote locations, while collaborating with access providers to connect more premises in the country.”
The statement said Maxis and Chinese telecoms giant Huawei have been progressing well on their TechCity initiative here, with a focus on increasing 4G capacity, boosting user experience, enabling fast 5G deployment, and optimising existing network resources. – Bernama, January 21, 2021
