KUALA LUMPUR – The ringgit fell against the United States dollar in early trade today, ahead of an announcement on Malaysia’s economic growth for the first quarter (Q1) of 2021.
At 9.01am, the local currency eased to 4.1100/1160 against the greenback from yesterday’s close of 4.1050/1100.
Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia edged lower across the board this morning, weighed down by weak sentiment following the extension of movement curbs in the country and ahead of the Q1 results.
At 9.14am, the benchmark index FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI fell 8.79 points to 1,575.13 from 1,583.92 at yesterday’s close.
The index opened 4.61 points weaker at 1,579.31. – Bernama, May 11, 2021
