KUALA LUMPUR – AirAsia Group Bhd’s wholly owned engineering services unit, Asia Digital Engineering Sdn Bhd (ADE), has obtained approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to provide base maintenance services.

With the approval, said the airline in a statement today, ADE will not only perform regular line maintenance, but also base maintenance (hangar or C check – heavier checks) for the group’s aircraft.

“It will also be available to support third-party airlines for aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).”

ADE chief executive Mahesh Kumar said the group has been sending aircraft to other MRO operators for scheduled base maintenance, but now, this can be done in Malaysia, reducing costs.

“With this base maintenance approval from CAAM, ADE is poised to become not just the biggest MRO (operator) in Malaysia, but also one of the biggest in Asean and beyond.”

Founded in September last year, ADE offers a range of aircraft services focused on the Airbus A320, A321 and A330 for line maintenance, component and warehouse services, and engineering support. – Bernama, May 12, 2021
