KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia rebounded to open higher today on mild buying interest in selected heavyweights, led by CIMB and Public Bank.
At 9.07am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 2.94 points to 1,517.89 from yesterday’s close of 1,514.95.
The index opened 2.28 points higher at 1,517.23.
On the broader market, gainers outpaced losers 198 to 168, while 236 counters were unchanged, 1,606 untraded and seven suspended.
The ringgit, however, opened lower against the United States dollar as the safe-haven greenback advances amid concerns about rising Covid-19 cases globally, and also better US initial jobless claims data.
At 9am, the local note stood at 4.2365/2385 versus the dollar from 4.2355/2400 at the close yesterday. – Bernama, August 20, 2021
