Western Digital invests RM2.3 bil to upgrade Malaysian production facilities

PUTRAJAYA – Data storage company Western Digital is investing RM2.3 billion to upgrade the company’s production facilities here in Malaysia.

This investment raises Western Digital’s overall Malaysian investment to almost RM18 billion. 

The Prime Minister’s Office said the decision was reached following a meeting between Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Western Digital group chairman Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Aljunid today.

“The investment will economically benefit the country and create job opportunities for more than 2,000 locals,” said the Prime Minister’s Office in a statement.

The investment will fund the expansion of the company’s facilities at Western Digital Penang and Western Digital Sarawak. 

The company’s Malaysian exports totaled RM18 billion in 2019. – The Vibes, November 5, 2020
