KUALA LUMPUR – The Securities Commission of Malaysia (SC) has announced four new senior appointments to its body as it looks to establish a more relevant, efficient, and diversified capital market.

The elections, which include fresh admissions of industry specialists and experts, took effect today.

SC chairman Datuk Seri Awang Adek Hussin said in a statement today that he is pleased to welcome the new appointments to the executive team, noting that their combined wealth of knowledge and experience will be a strong addition to the body.

“They will further strengthen the SC’s capabilities and effectiveness to promote market growth and integrity in a rapidly evolving environment that embraces sustainability, competition, and innovation,” he said.

New faces joining the SC include Datuk Azalina Adham as executive director of the newly created strategy and policy business group, where she will help drive the commission’s strategic direction in critical areas including corporate planning, risk management, and international relations.

Returning to the commission after a 12-year hiatus, media and communications specialist Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hamid now holds the title of executive director in the strategic communications and chairman’s office, and the role of sharpening the SC’s engagement and communication strategy with key stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Wong Huei Ching, who has been with the SC since 2017, has been promoted to executive director of digital strategy and innovation, with the aim to further the potential of digital innovation towards shaping a more inclusive and sustainable capital market.

Set to lead the SC’s investigation, prosecution, as well as civil enforcement work is the commission’s new director of enforcement, Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Besides that, long-time SC members Yew Yee Tee and Shamsul Bahriah Shamsudin will assume their new roles as general counsel and director of intermediary and fund supervision respectively. – The Vibes, July 1, 2022
