KUALA LUMPUR – PETRA Group has been conferred the Asia Responsible Enterprise Award 2022 under the Social Empowerment category by non-governmental organisation Enterprise Asia.

Regarded as the gold standard for corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability practice, the award is the most prominent CSR recognition programme in Asia that aims to honour businesses and leaders for championing sustainable and socially responsible business practices.

PETRA Group’s chief of sustainability Mooreyameen Mohamad said the group is honoured to be recognised for its entry on “Providing Solutions for Humanity Through Sustainable Technology”.

“PETRA Group’s vision is to become the global beacon for social capitalism, while providing real and sustainable solutions to address humanity’s most pressing issues.

“We believe that when businesses play a role in uplifting communities, it leads to stronger societies and sustainable wealth creation.”

PETRA Group’s senior vice-president Prof Graham Kendall said since the start of the pandemic, the company through the Vinod Sekhar Foundation has channelled some RM15 million to help support the most vulnerable communities, including the indigenous, disabled, old folks, children, refugees, and hardcore poor.

“We hope that other businesses will also come forward and help those who are less fortunate. We owe this to them, we owe it to each other and we owe it to humanity.”

PETRA Group is one of three companies from Malaysia to be recognised in this year’s regional awards.

Since 2011, the awards have recognised businesses from various industries while honouring their achievements in the seven categories of Social Empowerment, Investment in People, Health Promotion, Green Leadership, Corporate Governance, Circular Economy Leadership and Responsible Business Leadership. – The Vibes, August 7, 2022
