SEREMBAN – Local precision metal parts manufacturer Metalmach Micro Technology Sdn Bhd (MMT) and its auxiliary materials partner from China, Future Hover Industrial Co Ltd, will invest RM1 billion in a semiconductor plant in Negeri Sembilan.

MMT operations director Low Kim Yoong said with the cooperation and investment of both parties, RM10 billion export revenue could be generated within the next 10 years, beginning with the completion of an all-inclusive and comprehensive factory in Negri Sembilan.

“Both parties will synchronise top-of-the-line technologies and resources to offer a one-stop solution for the industry.

“This is achieved by combining MMT’s 40 years of experience in precision machining, mold dies, and semiconductor development together with Future Hover’s highly competitive consumables and auxiliary materials, as well as its expertise in semiconductor testing and packaging, all under one roof,” he said during a ceremony to mark the collaboration here today.

He added that with the increasing demand and aggressive expansion of the semiconductor sector in Southeast Asia, the collaboration also enhances Malaysia’s already favourable position in the supply chain and enables the country to be the preferred choice for global semiconductor production.

Low said the collaboration would enable the company to handle everything from the front end to the back end of the semiconductor assembly, making it one of the strongest players in the semiconductor industry supply chain.

“We look forward to providing superior support and cost-efficient solutions for industry players across the globe as well as contributing to our nation’s growth with the commencement of this joint venture,” he said.

He added that the upcoming factory will also serve as a hub for local and international suppliers to source more competitive items in a shorter lead time and generate more than 500 jobs.

Meanwhile, Future Hover (Malaysia) business director Alfred Foo said Malaysia serves as an ideal location in Southeast Asia not only because of its supportive government but also factors such as the educated workforce, strategic location, and developed infrastructure. – Bernama, September 8, 2022
