KUALA LUMPUR – KPJ Healthcare Bhd and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on collaboration to advance precision medicine and diagnostics in Malaysia.
The MoU outlines the commitment of both organisations to collaborate on clinical ventures, the advancement of medical technology, and the development and deployment of innovative solutions that improve patient care and outcomes.
Present during the MoU signing ceremony yesterday were KPJ Healthcare officer-in-charge Norhaizam Mohammad; Samsung Electronics corporate EVP health and medical equipment business head Y.K. Kim; and LAC Medical Supplies Sdn Bhd managing director YP Liew, with KPJ Healthcare chairman Datuk Md Arif Mahmood witnessing the signing.
KPJ Healthcare and Samsung said in a joint statement today that through this collaboration, they plan to explore innovative technologies and collaborative opportunities over the next six months.
The statement added that to ensure seamless synchronisation throughout the discussions, LAC Medical Supplies will play a key role as facilitator for the collaboration, ensuring the provision of complete information, services and training requirements.
“Precision medicine, which tailors medical treatment to the individual characteristics of each patient, has the potential to transform healthcare by improving patient outcomes, reducing healthcare costs, and enabling the development of more effective drugs and treatments.
“Coupled with advanced imaging diagnostics and artificial intelligence, which are essential for precision medicine, it enables healthcare providers to identify the genetic, molecular, and cellular characteristics of individual patients and tailor the treatment accordingly,” the statement added.
Norhaizam said that KPJ Healthcare is committed to providing the best possible care to its patients.
“We believe that precision medicine and diagnostics are essential for achieving this goal and we are delighted to partner with Samsung to advance the development and use of these technologies in Malaysia,” she said in the same statement.
She added that both parties would explore remote reporting system capabilities and smart hospital solutions for upcoming ambulatory care centres and new hospital projects.
“By leveraging assistive AI diagnostic technology and data analytics, KPJ Healthcare aims to improve patient care through unified outpatient systems, intra-hospital use of telemedicine, clinical innovation centres and modernised hospital information system development, supported by the group’s education arm, KPJ Healthcare University College under its research management centre,” she said. – Bernama, April 6, 2023
