KUALA LUMPUR – The 18th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas) last year recorded sales of RM2.39 billion, according to the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti).

In a written reply to a query submitted in the Dewan Negara yesterday, the ministry said the amount comprised sales of RM1.65 billion that were reported by the exhibitors and RM745.2 million in sales from the International Sourcing Programme.

Meanwhile, Miti said the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) has no specific plans to organise Mihas outside Kuala Lumpur.

It said factors such as available infrastructure and facilities need to be considered in organising Mihas, in addition to logistics facilities to accommodate the large number of exhibitors and local and international visitors.

“Nonetheless, there is nothing to prevent Miti and Matrade from considering organising the Mihas trade exhibition in other states, including Sarawak, if the existing infrastructure, facilities and logistics facilities can accommodate the needs,” Miti said in reply to Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim who asked whether the ministry intended to let Sarawak host Mihas. – Bernama, June 21, 2023
