LABUAN – Former foreign minister Senator Tan Sri Anifah Aman has been appointed as Labuan Corporation (LC) chairman for a two-year term effective June 19.

A statement from LC today said the appointment by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim follows the post’s vacancy since middle of last year.

Labuan PKR chief cum Sabah PKR secretary Simsudin Sidek is set to join Anifah in the new lineup as deputy chairman.

Federal Territories Department Director-General Datuk Seri Rosida Jaafar retained her post as LC board member until October 6, 2025.

A businessman, Datuk Seri Liew Shan Wen, was also appointed as one of the LC board members.

Labuan Umno deputy chief Datuk Bashir Alias has been appointed as LC advisory council chairman, and Labuan Wanita Umno chief Niswati Tarji, as one of the council’s members.

The council’s remaining four members have yet to be announced.

The post of deputy chairman of the council had been scrapped for this 2023-2025 term. – Bernama, June 26, 2023
