PENANG's reputation as a gastronomic haven is now attracting new-age franchises and investors eager to tap the taste buds of local residents and tourists alike.
The state's top performance as a preferred tourism destination besides the growing affluence of the local residents, especially with the manufacturing sector recording encouraging investments and transfer of technology, the state has become a must-stop for new food chains.
One of them is the Paris Baguette, an international chain which specialises in its exquisite French-South Korean-inspired delicacies.
Recently, the Malaysian franchise holder - Berjaya Food Berhad opened its 13th store at the Gurney Plaza shopping mall here.
Its first store in the northern region marked an exciting new chapter for food enthusiasts, as the launching ceremony drew a crowd, eager to taste the French pastries.
With this launch, Paris Baguette now proudly boasts 13 outlets nationwide and over 4,000 globally.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow graced the occasion, citing that the more diverse food outlets the state has, the more it cements Penang's standing as a gastronomic capital.
“As a fan of freshly baked pastries, I am thrilled to welcome Paris Baguette to our ever-evolving culinary scene.
“This addition is not just a testament to Penang’s vibrant food culture but also an exciting opportunity for Penangites and visitors to savour the brand’s globally renowned offerings,” he said.
Chow also highlighted Penang’s appeal to Korean travellers, citing the state’s rich culture, heritage, and diverse cuisine as key attractions.
“Between January and October this year, Penang welcomed nearly 10,000 Korean visitors via the Penang International Airport and the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal, underscoring the state’s growing international allure,” he added.
Chow also praised Berjaya Food Bhd for playing a pivotal role in bringing this brand to Penang, citing it will help boost the state’s economy while fostering deeper connections with South Korea.
The ceremony was attended by notable personalities, including Berjaya Food Bhd group chief executive officer Datuk Sydney Quays, Paris Baguette Southeast Asia chief executive officer Hana Lee, and Berjaya Paris Baguette general manager Suanne Chuah.
Paris Baguette under the Berjaya Food leadership, is also planning to expand regionally with operating rights in the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam and Thailand.

Penang’s oldest coffee factory now in MBOR
Meanwhile, Penang’s oldest coffee factory marked two major milestones: earning its second recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) and celebrating the grand opening of its fifth outlet.
SBK Coffee, also known as Sin Boon Kee, has evolved from a modest family-run operation into a thriving enterprise, celebrated for its signature Nanyang coffee blends.
Fourth-generation owner Jonathan Chan, the company’s chief executive officer, said that SBK Coffee was a shining example of a fusion between tradition and innovation.
“We are not just celebrating milestones; we are redefining coffee innovation,” he said.
Chan said this at the opening of its fifth outlet in Penang at the Sunshine Square Central Mall in Ayer Itam here.
Chan highlighted that the Nitro Nanyang Cold Brew Coffee is a revolutionary product in the coffee industry.
