SINGER Lionel Richie has been hospitalised as a precaution following his performance at a summer concert in St Louis over the weekend, according to a source close to his tour.

The “Hello” singer headlined The Muny’s annual summer finale concert on Saturday night, where concertgoers reportedly saw him struggling towards the end of the show.

Richie performed his final song, “All Night Long”, while seated, according to TMZ, which first reported his hospitalisation.

The latest development comes more than two months after Richie experienced dizziness during the opening night of his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire in Minnesota on June 24.

Videos shared online at the time showed the veteran performer continuing the concert while seated.

Richie subsequently postponed two shows, in Columbus, Ohio, and Chicago, after doctors advised him to “rest and return to full health”, according to Live Nation Chicago.

He returned to the stage on June 30 for a performance with Earth, Wind & Fire in Pittsburgh.

On July 4, Richie thanked fans for their concern and support in a message on Instagram.

“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love,” he wrote. “I'm doing well, and I'm grateful for all of you.”

No further details about the reason for Richie’s latest hospitalisation or his current condition were immediately available.

The 77-year-old singer remains scheduled to perform his “King of Hearts” shows at the Wynn in Las Vegas in October and November. - September 1, 2026
