THE work of the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, whether it is film or music, would not be forgotten as it is still has a following from various generations and walks of life.

However, what if this Seniman Agung (Great Artist) is elevated as a legendary poet through poetry and songs performed by language figures, literature, film and entertainment personalities of the country?

This is what transpired in the Malam Puisi Getaran Jiwa Tan Sri P. Ramlee event which took place virtually on July 25.

Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) secretary-general Datuk Dr Noor Zari Hamat said this programme focuses on versatile figures who are known from generation to generation even though some were not contemporaries of the late P. Ramlee.

“The songs he composed were so popular that P. Ramlee's clones appeared all over the country, but P. Ramlee was the only one. Until now there is still no replacement. ‘Di mana kan kucari ganti serupa denganmu’. This is one of the verses of songs that often tease our sense of hearing.

"In this context, I see the programme to appoint this Seniman Agung as Pemuisi Legenda (Legendary Poet) is appropriate and accurate because the artistic nature of the late P. Ramlee is unparalleled," said Noor Zari.

According to Noor Zari, P. Ramlee's observation of nature and human nature became his inspiration in producing interesting, quality works full of artistic value. He even wrote various teachings using satire and humour.

Noor Zari said this when officiating the inaugural event together with the National Association of Malaysian Poets (Pemuisi), Motac, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and the Malaysian Film Directors Association (FDAM).

The audience was also entertained with spontaneous comedy by a host who resembles the legendary artist, Musly Amir Mohamed Ramli, or better known by his stage name, Musly Ramlee.

Wings vocalist and actor Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman, or Awie, FDAM deputy president and film director Datuk Zulkifli M. Osman along with the great artist's granddaughter Najua P. Ramlee, also surprised the audience with a performance of P. Ramlee's popular poetry and songs.

Noor Zari also caught the attention of Facebook visitors when he presented a poem entitled 'Legenda Sepanjang Zaman' by Dr Lim Swee Tin.
