KUALA LUMPUR – Local metal band Mothflesh is slated to release its forthcoming album 'Machine Eater' on December 12.
The teaser of the upcoming third studio album came in mid-November when the band released 'The Lotus Denial' on major streaming platforms.
The single, which surfaced on November 11, also came with an accompanying music video on YouTube.
Mothflesh said the track's lyrical theme highlights people's intertwining relationship with advancing technology and addiction dependency.
"As we progress through an age of technology, we have a limited understanding of the effects of technology on human emotions, relationships, and mental wellbeing. Without revealing too much, " the band said in a statement.
"The Lotus Denial allegorises technology's transformation into a socially acceptable opiate, creating a new breed of addicts that refuse to acknowledge the present reality beyond the digital realm."
Formed in 2018, the three-piece group – based in Kuala Lumpur – has described its sound as a symbiotic evolution of contemporary aggressive music.
The sound of Mothflesh, it said, also fuses pendulum-like grooves of modern hardcore and metalcore of the late '90s, whilst taking proficient pages out of the technical death-metal playbook.
Mothflesh has also cited "traditional" death metal bands such as Bolt Thrower and Obituary as among influences for the dissonance and hooks in the new single.
Mothflesh is also said to be suited for fans of other international acts that fall in the same vein, mostly djent and death metal bands, such as Fit for an Autopsy, Jinjer, Car Bomb, and Decapitated.
Before the latest single and upcoming album, Mothflesh – which consists of vocalist Imran Muhammad, guitarist Ranveer Maddog Singh and bassist Ezekiel Eze Mavani – had released its debut album 'Noctural Armour' in 2019, followed by 'Skyfather' in 2020. – The Vibes, December 5, 2021
