KEVIN Federline, 44, who spent years in the eye of the tabloid storm, over the course of his very public romance with Britney Spears, 40, but who has stayed away from the limelight, is now speaking out on the fractured relationship between the two children they share and their mother.

Spears, who has been one of the most well known pop singers of the last 25 years, recaptured the public’s attention following a protracted battle to escape her father’s conservatorship of 13 years. After winning in court, she proceeded to marry model Sam Asghari, 28, in June, as well as taking a few suggestive pictures on her social media.

In an interview with the Daily Mail – which will be followed by an interview on British channel ITV this week – Federline, a former backup dancer to the singer, who was married to her from 2004 to 2006, explains why their children Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden, 15, have chosen to stay away from their mother.

“The boys have decided they are not seeing her right now,” Kevin said in the interview. “It's been a few months since they've seen her. They made the decision not to go to her wedding.”

He then adds that he believes the controversial 13-year conservatorship by her father “saved” her. Britney was finally released from the arrangement in November, but the public nature of the case had an effect on the two teenage boys.

“This whole thing has been hard to watch, harder to live through, harder to watch my boys go through than anything else,” he says. “It's been tough. It's the most challenging thing I've ever had to do in my life.”

Kevin also said the boys would visit Britney during her conservatorship, but apparently saw things that made him fairly uncomfortable, though he declines to go into any details.

Following her release from her conservatorship last year, the pop star began posting nude selfies on her social media, which Kevin says compelled him to apologise to the boys for any troubles they experienced as a result.

While insisting the boys love their mother, he said: “I try to explain to them, 'Look, maybe that's just another way she tries to express herself.' But that doesn't take away from the fact of what it does to them. It's tough.”

“I can't imagine how it feels to be a teenager having to go to high school.”

Federline stresses that he is only speaking out to show an untold side of this story that has captured the interest of millions around the world.

He currently lives quietly with his sons and wife of nine years, Victoria, an accomplished former volleyball player. The couple have two children of their own, while Kevin has other two older children from a prior relationship.

In November 2006, two months after the birth of Jayden, Spears filed for divorce from Federline, citing irreconcilable differences and asking for custody of their two sons. After a lengthy legal fight, they were awarded joint custody, but by January 2008, after she had a very public meltdown, he was awarded sole custody of the boys. – The Vibes, August 7, 2022
