‘TIGER Stripes’, the inaugural film by Amanda Nell Eu, a Malaysian filmmaker, triumphed as the Grand Prize winner at the esteemed Critics' Week of the Cannes Film Festival.

This distinguished event showcases the works of emerging directors presenting their first or second feature films.

The accolade was bestowed upon the film by a panel of judges led by Audrey Diwan, the celebrated director of the award-winning ‘Happening’ from Venice.

Another notable recognition, the French Touch Jury Award, was presented to Paloma Sermon-Daï, a Belgian director, for her captivating portrayal of adolescence in ‘It's Raining in the House’. 

Additionally, the Louis Roederer Foundation honoUred Jovan Ginic, the talented actor from Vladimir Perisic's ‘Lost Country’, with the Revelation prize. Furthermore, Iris Kaltenbäck's ‘The Rapture’ received the prestigious SACD prize.

In the compelling narrative of ‘Tiger Stripes’, we follow the journey of Zaffan, a 12-year-old girl who uncovers a chilling secret about her own body.

Isolated and shunned by her community, Zaffan courageously fights back, realising that true freedom lies in accepting and embracing the very body she once feared. Through her journey, she emerges as a proud and resilient woman.

The cast of the film includes Zafreen Zairizal, Deena Ezral, and Piqa.

The production team behind this captivating movie includes Foo Fei Ling, Patrick Mao Huang, Fran Borgia, Juliette Lepoutre, Pierre Menahem, Jonas Weydemann, Ellen Havenith, and Yulia Evina Bhara.

In France, the film will be distributed by Jour2Fete, while Films Boutique represents it in international markets. – The Vibes, May 25, 2023
