UEC not a requirement for entry into reputed Chinese universities - Asyraf Wajdi
"MARA has started sending excellent Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) students," he said in a post on his Facebook on Sunday.

THE Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) is not an entry requirement for renowned universities in China such as Tsinghua University, Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

MARA Chairman, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said this was based on consultations with leading higher education institutions in that country (China).

"In my consultations with renowned universities in China such as Tsinghua, Peking, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, I learnt that the UEC certificate is not an entry requirement.

"MARA has started sending excellent Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) students," he said in a post on his Facebook on Sunday.

He said that MARA Junior College of Science (MRSM) also introduced mastery of a third language which students must master, whether Arabic, Mandarin, French, German, Japanese or Korean.

"MRSM students who excel in SPM and can master one of these languages will be given priority to be sponsored to the world's leading universities in those countries.

"The goal is to produce a generation of technocrats, professionals who are fluent in Malay, English and a third language, whether Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, German, French or Spanish.

"God willing, the transfer of technology and expertise, including the creation of international economic and business networks with developed countries, can be done more effectively in the future when the next generation is fluent in more languages," he said. – December 14, 2025
