Schools across Group A and Group B states will begin the 2027 academic session on 4 January, with aligned festive holidays that require no replacement classes, the Education Ministry confirms

THE Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced that the 2027 academic calendar for government and government-aided schools in Group A states will run from 4 January to 2 December 2027.

For schools in Group B states, the academic term will run from 4 January to 3 December 2027.

Group A comprises schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, whereas Group B includes schools in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.

The ministry has also coordinated festive holiday dates across the 2027 school year for major celebrations, including Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya Aidiladha, Kaamatan Festival, Hari Gawai Dayak, Wesak Day, and Christmas.

"All schools must comply with the additional holiday allocations provided by the MOE for major festive celebrations including Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidiladha, Wesak Day, and Deepavali. These allocated additional holidays do not need to be replaced," the ministry stated. - October 3, 2026
