MIRI – All schools in the state – including those in Miri and Sibu, which are Covid-19 red zones – will reopen tomorrow, with the Disaster Management Committees in both districts having issued notices to such effect.

Sibu has drawn up a rotation system, where classes for primary school students will be carried out on alternate days – some will come to class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while others come on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Secondary school students will get one full week of physical classroom sessions, followed by one week of e-learning classes.

In Miri, schools are given the option to implement the rotation system based on the number of students.

Due to the surge in Covid-19 cases, the reopening of schools has been repeatedly postponed in both districts since the beginning of the year.

The Education and Health Departments have drawn up strict standard operating procedures for schools to adhere to when classes begin tomorrow.

These include the wearing of face masks, as well as practising physical distancing and personal hygiene, and will cover all teachers, staffers, students and parents. – The Vibes, April 4, 2021
