KUALA LUMPUR – The nation’s 5G single-wholesale-network provider Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and Ericsson are launching a free online academic programme on 5G and digital technologies for tertiary education students.
Dubbed the MY5G Ericsson Malaysia Pioneers Programme, the initiative will go live tomorrow and is considered to be a crucial step in contributing to the development of tech talent throughout the country, DNB said in a statement.
DNB said the online academic programme is curated for Malaysian students, with 42 hours of learning content on awareness of digital technologies, digital skills, and knowledge.
“The fast expanding national 5G network will be a major equaliser, enabling new digital and employment opportunities throughout urban and rural areas and helping to bridge the digital divide,” said the programme’s director Ahmad Helmi Bin Azhar.
He said the programme is crucial to driving digital literacy in Malaysia as it lays down the foundations for the digital economy.
The programme consists of three modules that require students to learn and understand technological functionalities and application of digital services – as well as take online assessments for each module, upon which they will receive a badge of completion once they are done.
Students will also be taught to develop solutions for sales pitches from fictional buyers.
“We are proud to contribute to the development of the 5G ecosystem by launching the program nationwide to all students at the tertiary level,” said Ellen Alarilla, the sustainability and corporate responsibility programme manager for Ericsson in Southeast Asia, Oceania, and India.
