In Selangor, electorate cast ballots with state set for close fights in Malay-majority seats

KUALA LUMPUR – Polling day for the crucial state elections has finally arrived. The electorate in six states, as well as those voting in the Kuala Terengganu by-election, head to the ballot box today after two weeks of intense campaigning.
Although most pollsters predict that none of the six states will flip, Perikatan Nasional is expected to be competitive in Penang and Selangor’s Malay-majority seats. Pakatan Harapan will be hoping the “green wave” that brought PN success in last year’s general election has abated.
Former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will not be defending his Bukit Antarabangsa seat, and has switched to Hulu Kelang – where he is up against PH’s Juwairiya Zulkifli, in what is set to be one of today’s hottest contests. This morning, Azmin was seen accompanying his maternal aunt, Che Bee Yahya, at the SK Klang Gate voting centre.
Meanwhile, caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who is defending Sg Tua, arrived at the SJK(C) Selayang Baru voting centre with his wife Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, and the couple even took the opportunity to pose for a photo on a classic scooter.
Though turnout in all six states is predicted to be low, it was still a vibrant affair at several polling stations in Selangor. The Vibes’ AZLAN HADI ABU BAKAR, NOOREEZA HASHIM, SYADILA AMARI and SALWA FARHANA ISMAIL were on hand at a few polling stations in the state to capture the scenes this morning. – The Vibes, August 12, 2023
