MORE than 12,000 people gathered at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam yesterday to celebrate the marriage of the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, and his consort, Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz, at the Majlis Santunan Kasih Pengantin Diraja Bersama Rakyat.

The event, which began at 2pm and continued until midnight, was a continuation of the royal couple’s traditional wedding ceremony held at Istana Alam Shah, Klang, witnessed by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

Tengku Amir Shah and Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini arrived at the celebration at 9pm, accompanied by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

Their arrival was greeted by state leaders and members of the public, accompanied by royal kompang drummers and a Silat Cekak Hanafi performance.

The ceremony began with a prayer led by the Deputy Mufti of Selangor, Datuk Dr Miszairi Sitiris, before guests were treated to cultural performances by the Mah Meri Orang Asli community and a traditional Zapin Nikah Kahwin dance performed by children under the Department of National Culture and Arts (JKKN) Selangor, alongside various local artistes.

Earlier in the afternoon, the royal couple joined the public in a series of traditional games as part of the Sukan Rakyat programme held in conjunction with the event. Upon arrival, they officiated the celebration by participating in a tin-throwing game before watching matches of sarong football, marble racing and galah panjang.

The couple also took part in traditional games such as congkak and batu seremban, observed dam haji matches and mingled warmly with attendees, especially children.

The royal wedding ceremony between Tengku Amir Shah and Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini was solemnised on 2 October by the Selangor Mufti, Datuk Dr Anhar Opir, at the Royal Mosque in Istana Alam Shah, Klang. - November 8, 2025
