THE king of fruits recently created a commotion in Paris when a Malaysian family decided to enjoy some fresh durian.

Durian lovers may not even notice the intensity of the scent, but for those who are not fans, it could easily be mistaken for something else.

Just as the couple were digging into their fragrant fruit, they were interrupted by the sound of sirens and firefighters at their door.

Turns out their neighbours had reported a suspicious smell, fearing a possible gas leak in the building.

The couple had earlier bought the packet of durian along with pulut from nearby Chinatown.

Realising it might have been caused by their durian, the couple pretended not to know anything.

The firefighters continued searching for the source of the smell but found nothing, eventually leaving after determining that the area was safe.

Their gas meters showed zero readings.
