KUALA Terengganu came alive today as the roar of 500 four-wheel-drive (4x4) vehicles from across Malaysia echoed through the city, gathering in support of the Drive For Gaza campaign.

The iconic Kuala Terengganu Bridge was chosen as the assembly point, marking the official starting line of the humanitarian solidarity convoy.

Chairman of the Terengganu State Committee for Youth Development, Sports and NGOs, Hishamuddin Abdul Karim, said the state government was honoured that the landmark had been selected to launch the programme.

He expressed confidence that the campaign’s main objective would be achieved, despite the many challenges involved.

“I understand that this initiative aims to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza via land routes.

“Such an effort clearly requires careful planning and close cooperation with international partners, especially as it involves cross-border logistics. Still, I strongly believe that sincere intentions will lead to success and can be made a reality,” he said after officiating the event.

Representing the Menteri Besar at the ceremony, Hishamuddin added that the state government consistently welcomes programmes organised by associations and clubs with noble causes.

Initiatives like this, he said, play a positive role in uniting society.

“When people come to Terengganu, we welcome them.

“Programmes like these benefit the community, and the state government is pleased to host such events,” he said.

Meanwhile, Drive for Gaza Director and Chairman of the Disaster and Welfare Volunteers Association (DVAC), Khairul Badri Abdul Basit, said the programme demonstrated strong support from the 4x4 community for the humanitarian struggle in Palestine.

“The convoy is meant to give participants a sense of what a future aid mission to Gaza by land would involve, while also raising and channelling humanitarian funds,” he explained.

He added that the actual convoy to Gaza is expected to take place next year, while this year’s activities focus on building public awareness.

“The next routes will include Melaka, Kelantan, and will conclude in Putrajaya. Our aim is to unite the 4x4 community so more people can stand together in solidarity with Palestine.

“We also urge Malaysians to continue the boycott and avoid supporting products linked to Israel,” he said.

Donations to support the programme can be made through the official platforms of Drive for Gaza, DVAC, or Muslim Care Malaysia. – January 31, 2026
