META Platforms’ Facebook and Instagram services were disrupted today, affecting thousands of users who reported difficulties accessing the social media platforms and their websites.
Online outage monitoring service Downdetector recorded 4,808 reports from Facebook users in the United States as of 7.46am GMT, with 63 per cent of complaints related to problems accessing the platform’s website.
Instagram also experienced disruptions, with 2,829 reports logged by users in the US as of 8.18am GMT, with most complaints involving difficulties using the application.
Reuters checks found that access to Facebook and Instagram in Singapore was inconsistent, with users reporting intermittent service disruptions while attempting to use the platforms.
Meta has not issued any official statement on the cause of the outage and did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by email. - July 19, 2026
