GREAT news for vegetarians and those looking to cut out meat from their diet. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) has recently announced their list of the "8 Best Veggies Burgers in Malaysia", just in time for the Year of the Ox.

Made from tempeh, lentils, mushrooms and jackfruit, these veggie burgers are healthy and animal-friendly, said Peta in a statement.

“The Year of the Ox is the perfect time to show compassion to cows – who feel joy, love, pain, and fear just as humans, cats, dogs, and other animals do – by leaving them off our plates,” says Peta Senior Vice-President Jason Baker.

The winners, in no particular order:

The restaurants will all get framed certificates.

“With so many delicious veggie burgers to choose from in restaurants across Malaysia, it’s easy (and tasty) to save cows in the Year of the Ox – and every year,” said Baker.

Beyond Burgers are available at restaurants such as PC Studio, and a selection of easy-to-prepare veggie burger patties is available online via Vegan District.

According to Peta, every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals each year. It’s healthier, too. Like swine flu, bird flu, and SARS; Covid-19 has been linked to eating animals – and so have heart disease, diabetes, strokes, and cancer.

Peta – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – opposes speciesism, which is the human-supremacist view that other species are nothing more than commodities.
