IN conjunction with this year’s Earth Hour celebration, WWF-Malaysia is organising its inaugural Virtual Run for Nature.

Registration for the Virtual Run is open until Earth Hour Day on March 27. In keeping with the 'virtual' aspect of the run, the race can be completed at any location, either outdoors or indoors on a machine. Participants will have until April 15 to complete their 10km run.

Earth Hour is an annual worldwide event that encourages individuals, communities, and businesses to collectively switch off their lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm as a symbolic gesture of their commitment to protecting the planet.

WWF-Malaysia executive director and chief executive officer (CEO) Sophia Lim said that this year’s Earth Hour celebration is as much about Malaysians taking care of themselves as it is about saving the country’s wildlife and forests.

“For years, Malaysians have done their part by signing pledges and donating to support nature conservation efforts – beginning with the symbolic act of turning their lights off during Earth  Hour. Their thoughtful actions have contributed immensely to protecting nature, which is one of our greatest allies against climate change.

“It is equally important to care for our physical and mental health during these extraordinary times. By joining this Virtual Run, participants can stay active at a pace that suits their lifestyles while also contributing to a worthy cause,” she said.

To make the sporting event more meaningful, finishers will be entitled to receive a unique recycled wood medal and customised E-certificate with their name for a registration fee of RM45. Alternatively, participants can also opt-out of receiving the medal while still getting the E-certificate for a lower registration fee of RM30.
