THE funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will commence on Monday at 11am (7pm MYT), after lying in state for five days in Westminster Hall. World leaders have gathered ahead of the state funeral to pay respects to the fallen monarch, who passed away on September 8, at the age of 96.

Prince William, Prince Harry, and other of the Queen’s grandchildren came together for a vigil on Sunday to mourn ahead of the state funeral. They were joined by Princess Anne’s children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips; Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie; and Prince Edward’s children, Lady Louise and Viscount Severn. King Charles III and his siblings paid respects last Friday in Westminster.

The Queen’s lying-in-state will end on Monday at 6.30am. Four hours later, a group of bearers will lift her coffin onto the gun carriage that was used for the funerals of George V, George VI, Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill. The funeral ceremony will be held at Westminster Abbey, where the Queen will be moved from Westminster Hall.

Before concluding the service, the nation will observe a two-minute silence following remarks from Prime Minister Liz Truss and Secretary General of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland.

A committal service will be held at St George’s Chapel, Windsor at 4pm after the Queen is transferred there.

The coverage of the Queen’s funeral has been chaotic, as reported by numerous news platforms. The funeral has had an outstanding number of broadcasters flocking to a single location, fending for space and bandwidth.
