THE Health Ministry has recommended a third booster shot of the Covid-19 vaccine, especially for those in vulnerable and high-risk groups.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said this is in consideration of the recent surge in Covid-19 infections.

“There is a sufficient stock of vaccines available which were effective in protecting the people from mutated infections and new Covid-19 variants.

“The third booster is necessary to protect those in the vulnerable groups including the elderly and those with comorbidities who are susceptible to risks,” he said.

He said he had briefed the cabinet about the urgency of the current situation.

Dzulkefly said the surge in Covid-19 cases was mainly due to weather conditions and the movement of people between states during the year-end holiday season.

He said the five-day quarantine period is still in effect for positive cases.

He urged people to wear masks if they experienced any symptoms and to also do so in crowded areas. – The Vibes, December 16, 2023.
