DESPITE desperate attempts by certain plotters, they have failed to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim using undemocratic means, said Lim Kit Siang.
The DAP veteran leader said the plotters who want Anwar to serve as the shortest Prime Minister in Malaysia are increasingly desperate as seen in their various plots, the latest being the Dubai Move.
“They have failed and there will be no more “backdoor” Prime Ministers in Malaysia.
“Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri will be the country’s two backdoor Prime Ministers and they will go down in history as two persons not decided by the majority in Parliament as provided in the Malaysian Constitution,” he said in a statement.
In his first year in office, Anwar Ibrahim was fighting for his life as he tried to forestall various attempts to topple him.
“But the Green Wave triggered by the Perikatan Nasional in the 15th General Election reached its peak before the six state general elections in August last year and the PN was unable to capture the Selangor or Negri Sembilan state governments.
“Now that he is assured of political stability for the next three to four years, the time has come for Anwar to focus on national unity and to deliver the various institutional reforms he had promised,” said Lim.
The DAP stalwart said this was necessary so Malaysia can reverse its national decline in close to a quarter of century and rise up again as a great plural world-class country.
“The country should restore democratic norms and practices and reaffirm its commitment to the safeguarding and support of vital institutions and processes that are the hallmark of vibrant and flourishing democratic systems,” he added. - The Vibes, January 6, 2024
