POLICE have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with an incident involving the brutal assault of a 73-year-old senior citizen on Jan 30.

The arrest follows social media postings by the victim's daughter appealing to the public to help locate her father's assailant.

Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Wan Yusof said the man detained had a criminal record with three prior drug-related offences.

Police are probing the case under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt which carries a maximum jail term of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.

Wan Kamarul confirmed receiving a report on Jan 30 from the retiree who claimed he was assaulted in front of a private clinic in Taman Tasik Puchong Prima, Putra Perdana, Sepang.

"A medical check revealed the man suffered a swelling on the head, bruises to the left eye, broken left cheekbone and a broken lower left eye socket," he said.

The 25-year-old suspect was nabbed by police on Feb 5 at 5 pm.

Following the incident on Jan 30, the victim's daughter Saraswathy Sivapalan said her father was using Waze and forgot to use his indicator when turning at a junction.

The suspect who was behind him at the time began to honk incessantly and the victim stopped his car and got out to apologise.

However, rather than accepting the apology, she said the suspect assaulted him.

“Several bystanders tried to help and stop the suspect, but it only seemed to fuel his anger further, and he continued to pursue my father to continue the assault,” she said.

Saraswathy also revealed details of the road bully - Mohammad Zakaria Bin Mohd Razali who was last seen driving a Perodua Axia with the licence plate QAA 1303N.

She also appealed to those who have information or video evidence of the assault to call her at 011-2121 4397 or contact the nearest police station.

At the time of the incident, the victim was driving from Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, to Putra Perdana, Sepang to meet a friend.

Following the first assault, the road bully followed the victim and blocked him when they reached a bakery shop in Putra Perdana, Sepang, about 1 kn from the previous location.

The suspect once again pulled the victim out of the car and began assaulting him again.

The victim was then left at the scene and later taken to the Serdang Hospital by ambulance. - The Vibes, February 6, 2024
