DUE to a lack of financial and institutional support, the Penang House of Music, which has been a repository of Penang's musical heritage, will be closing its doors.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce that the Penang House of Music will be shutting its doors for good," read a statement on its Facebook page.

The Penang House of Music was established in 2016 at the Komtar building and is listed by CNN as one of the 25 must-visit places on the island.

Its opening was made possible due to an RM3 million sponsorship by the Penang Water Supply Corporation in 2016.

However, it is not clear when it will close its doors, but it is learnt that it could be as early as the end of this month.

"It’s been a wonderful seven over years and we are proud of this labour of love, but, just passion alone isn’t enough sometimes, and the lack of financial and institutional support has made it a little too difficult to continue.

"As we tidy up loose ends, please be patient with us and we urge you to come visit us one last time and help us celebrate our rich music legacy that deserves its place in history," added the statement. - The Vibes, February 14, 2024
