10 years’ jail for woman who threw hot water at Down syndrome man
A SALES assistant who splashed hot water on a man with Down syndrome while in a lift in Penang was sentenced today to 10 years in jail and fined RM6,000.
Balik Pulau sessions court judge Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin delivered the sentence on Oo Saw Kee, 39, who had pleaded guilty.
Ahzal said Oo’s actions were serious, cruel and inhumane, especially against a disabled person.
He noted the victim had not provoked the woman in any way.
"In this case, the court needs to take into consideration the public interest rather than personal interest of the accused,” he said.
Oo was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, a crime punishable by up to 20 years in jail, a fine, or caning, or any of the two of penalties.
The offence was committed in a lift in I-Park apartments around 9.24am on April 19, the charge sheet showed,

On Friday, police detained a woman suspected of splashing hot water on a man in an apartment left.
Southwest acting police chief Jafri Md Zain said the 39-year-old suspect was detained at 9.21pm on the apartment grounds.
The victim, A. Solairaj, 33, was treated at Penang Hospital. Medical officers confirmed that the victim, who had Down syndrome, suffered burns on his chest and back.
He was reported to be in stable condition.
