PERLIS Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli says he will leave it to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate his son, who was detained earlier today for allegedly falsifying claims amounting to RM600,000 over government public works contracts.
When met by journalists at the state assembly legislative sitting, Shukri, the Perlis PAS commissioner, said he will not interfere and he leaves it to the MACC to probe his son.
The former educator here said that the menteri besar’s office was notified of the detention.
Earlier, the Kangar magistrate court allowed his son and five others, including a senior state officer, to be remanded by the MACC for two days.
Those remanded are between the ages of 26 and 37, and they were being detained under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
The penalty under Section 18, is a maximum of 20 years in prison and a minimum fine of RM10,000 or five times the value of the bribe.
Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Nasional deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusuf Rawa said people should not make any assumption on the matter until the MACC has completed its probe.
He said that the detention is an example that the Madani national unity government will not tolerate any form of corruption, including with persons who have links to VIPs. - The Vibes, April 24, 2024.
