TERESA Kok must be protected from all criminal and unlawful acts, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, following a death threat to the Seputeh MP.
He said his party wants to see a swift investigation and prosecution of the people threatening the former primary industries minister.
The Kota Baru MP said violence has become increasingly common in Malaysia, affecting politicians, security personnel, athletes, and the business community
“Kok, as a citizen and an MP, is entitled to all the protection provided under the country’s laws and has the right to live her life, as both an individual and a politician, peacefully and free from fear or threats.
“PAS acknowledges that the police have initiated an investigation under Section 507 of the Penal Code. PAS hopes for a swift resolution as such criminal acts are entirely unacceptable in our society,” he said today in a statement of support for Kok.
It was reported yesterday that Kok received a death threat and two bullets in the mail.
She said she found the letter and bullets in her mailbox on Saturday night.
“I was checking my mailbox at my residence last night and I found an envelope with something heavy in it," she said on Facebook.
“When I opened it, I saw two bullets and a piece of paper. Written on it were the words ‘Cbilu Cina?!!! Lu Akan Mati!!! TUNGGU!!!’."
Kok has filed a report with the police.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa confirmed receiving the report, saying the case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said violence has no place in national politics.
He said the party was firmly behind Kok and praised the police for their swift action.
“We condemn the death threat against DAP vice-president Teresa Kok. Such violence has no place in our country and we are behind Kok in this matter.
“I would like to thank the police for taking action as soon as the report was lodged,” he said in a statement. – May 20, 2024.
