PERLIS Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli is leaving it to the judicial system to try his son after Mohd Syafeeq Mohd Shukri was charged today with submitting false claims for payment to the State Secretary's Office.

Shukri said his son Syafeeq has yet to be found guilty.

"This morning, my son was presented to the court to face a charge. I am not sure what the charge is, and we are leaving it to the court to try him," Shukri told the media in Kangar.

"He has not been found guilty; he is just being charged. Let's wait for the process to take its course."

Shukir said he had not seen his son since this morning because "we do not live in the same house".

"I haven't spoken to him (Syafeeq), I am leaving it to him and his lawyer," he said.

Syafeeq claimed trial today to a charge of submitting RM19,000 in false claims for the supply of drinks to the Perlis ruler.

He was accused of submitting a fraudulent government order, under the name of Mohd Farid Abdul Hamid, to supply drinks for Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail in the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital.

Syafeeq was charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009. The crime is punishable by up to 20 years in jail and a fine of five times the amount of the false claim or RM10,000, whichever is higher. – May 23, 2024.
