POLICE have taken disciplinary action against a security escort accused of assaulting a disabled e-hailing driver on May 28, Bernama reports.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department has taken internal action against the officer.

Investigation papers on the case were resubmitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers following orders on July 22 for a deeper probe into the case, he said.

“Investigations were conducted last July, and disciplinary action has been taken,” he said yesterday.

On Wednesday, a deaf e-hailing driver released a dashcam video of himself being assaulted by someone believed to be the security escort of a VIP.

His lawyer, N. Surendran, said the attacker had yet to be penalised despite police claims that the investigation papers were submitted to the AGC, adding that two letters had been sent to the AGC regarding the matter.

In the 90-second video, Ong Ing Keong can be seen behind the wheel of his car waiting for his fare to load a bag in the boot. A man in a suit knocks on the car window, ordering him to move the vehicle. The driver used sign language to tell the man that he was waiting for a passenger .

A few seconds later, another man in a suit appeared at the driver’s side window and punched the driver.

On June 5, Razarudin said investigation papers had been sent to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office for further action.

He said 12 people, including the victim, hotel employees, and the VIP escort officers, were called up for their statements. – August 16, 2024.
