At least 350 left homeless in yet another longhouse blaze

AT LEAST 350 people have been left homeless following yet another devastating longhouse fire this afternoon.

Longhouse Rumah Nura, located along Sungai Labang in the interior of Bintulu Division in northern Sarawak, was burnt to the ground at around 2.30pm today.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, in its latest updates, said firefighters had been deployed to the scene.

The fire destroyed 23 living quarters, which housed at least 350 people.

"The occupants managed to escape the fire.

"No one has been reported injured so far," the department stated.

Fire teams are still on site to assist the victims.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. – September 12, 2024.
