SUPERSTAR Rajinikanth was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai on Monday night after reportedly experiencing stomach pain.
According to reports, the hospital released a statement on Tuesday where it was revealed that the actor had swelling in his aorta, the main blood vessel leaving his heart.
This condition was treated non-surgically by Dr. Sai Satish, a senior interventional cardiologist who placed a stent in Rajinikanth's aorta to seal off the swelling.
"Senior Interventional Cardiologist Dr Sai Satish placed a stent in the aorta completely sealing off the swelling (Endovascular Repair. We would like to let his well-wishers and fans know that the procedure went, as planned. Mr Rajinikanth is stable and doing well. He should be home in two days," read the statement.
One doctor treating him told The Times of India: "It was a picture-perfect procedure. He is a superstar inside and outside."
Coincidentally warded in Apollo Hospitals as well is activist businessman Datuk Vinod Sekhar who is six months into a heart transplant.
He is under the care of two of India’s leading heart transplant surgeons Dr Paul Ramesh Thangaraj and Dr Madhan Kumar.
From a video sent to close friends and family, it is learnt that he recently had a second moderate rejection of the transplanted heart and has been undergoing increased steroid treatment for it.
He was also simultaneously fighting a secondary infection and Covid-19.
Vinod is now about to undergo an experimental procedure to clear his blood of any factors that may be the cause of the recurring rejection. It is understood that he is the first heart transplant patient in the region to have this procedure.
His new heart is functioning well and is thus far, undamaged by the rejection events. - October 1, 2024
