VILLAGERS rescued 10 people from a car which plunged into Sungai Sundar in Lawas, Sarawak about 1.15 pm today.
Three of the passengers, all school children, were rushed to the Sundar Clinic, while the others escaped without injuries.
The children were earlier given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before being rushed to the clinic.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the incident occurred in Kampung Awat-Awat, near the Sarawak-Sabah border.
The car is believed to have veered off the road before plunging into the river.
“Villagers managed to rescue all 10 people inside the Perodua Alza car, while three of them were rushed to the clinic for further treatment.
“The three children were trapped in the car and it took villagers some time to get them out,” said the department.
A rescue team from the Lawas Fire and Rescue Department was also at the scene. - October 18, 2024
