SABAH Pakatan Harapan (PH) has delayed a key meeting to reassess its partnership with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), citing scheduling conflicts.

The meeting which was supposed to be held today was postponed as Sabah PH chairman Datuk Ewon Benedick had to travel to Kuala Lumpur for an event at Istana Negara tomorrow.

A new date has yet to be announced.

The Vibes had reported that the meeting was already postponed a few times and as it was learnt that at least one of the component parties of Sabah PH was unable to attend twice.

“We need more time to reach a consensus with our allies within PH,” Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe told The Vibes.

“But DAP already had some views to bring up to PH,” he added.

The talks are crucial as Sabah DAP has been urged to reconsider its role in the state government by the DAP Central Executive Committee last week.

This comes after allegations of corruption involving mining activities surfaced involving Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) politicians.

Last week, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook reiterated the party's zero-tolerance stance on corruption, granting the Sabah chapter full authority to review its position in the state administration.

“The central executive committee has given us a clear mandate to act in the best interest of Sabahans while upholding our anti-corruption principles,” Phoong said.

GRS chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has expressed optimism about continuing the partnership with PH.

At a Christmas event over the weekend, he said he had already indicated to PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and told Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that GRS can secure a victory in the state election next year.

“We are committed to ensuring a strong and stable government for Sabah,” Hajiji reportedly said during a Christmas function.

Sabah PH and GRS currently co-administer the state, but tensions have risen amid calls for greater accountability within the administration following the mining licenses bribery scandal. - December 16, 2024
