A FORMER PKR leader has called on the authorities to apply a ban on 3Rs (race, religion and royalty) topics on PAS and right-wing ulamaks after their recent attacks on Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim needs to ensure that a ban on the use of 3Rs must include all Malaysians rather than a select few, said former PKR deputy secretary-general S. Raveentharan.

"We cannot allow a few detractors to bring us back to the age where 3Rs divided and caused political instability."

The world is moving forward and those who harbour 3R aspirations should either respect that such topics are irrelevant or face the rule of law, the senior lawyer said.

This practice must be adopted against all groups and individuals or the nation seeks to fall backwards into the political abyss where instability looms, Raveentharan said.

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has meanwhile turned down an invitation by PAS to attend a street rally next week in solidarity with former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Lim reportedly cited two notable reasons; the “bullying” against his two party colleagues and the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) statement on the pardon application last Saturday.

Lim said he would reject the invite by PAS as the Islamic party was also holding a rally against two cabinet ministers from the DAP, Nga Kor Ming and Hannah Yeoh.

Nga, the local government and housing minister, was recently criticised over a Christmas celebration at his ministry’s office in Putrajaya as it involved Muslims.

It was reported that a spokesperson from the ministry has since denied forcing its Muslim personnel to attend the event, while Nga was reported to have said that the event mostly involved participants from Sabah and Sarawak.

Yeoh, on the other hand, is once again being accused of attempting to convert Muslims to Christianity or working towards turning Malaysia into a Christian nation after her defamation suit against former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Musa Hassan was dismissed.

Monday is the scheduled hearing by the Court of Appeal on Najib’s application for leave to adduce fresh evidence in his appeal to serve the remainder of his imprisonment under house arrest. - January 3, 2025.
