PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that discussions concerning the allocation for opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) are still in progress.
In response to allegations of unfair treatment by the government regarding these allocations, he highlighted the necessity of dialogue before any amendments to drafts can be considered.
He recalled that during his tenure as opposition leader, he engaged in concurrent meetings with former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"There needs to be a conversation first; adjustments to the draft can follow. However, currently, there is a lot of noise coming from outside. Why is that? They should take the time to understand the situation before attempting to portray themselves as champions of the cause.
"At present, they are leveraging this issue to create unrest. Some assert they are struggling due to debt. Are they aware of the allowances an MP receives if they attend all meetings? It ranges from RM30,000 to RM40,000. Who among us earns RM30,000? No one," he said when approached by reporters after participating in the 2025 Revenue Collection Day event.
Earlier, PN Chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the opposition turned down the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning allocations for opposition MPs because they felt the government's terms were too harsh and unfair.
Muhyiddin pointed out that under these conditions, it seems like PN would have to surrender everything to the government just to get a specific allocation. - March 10, 2025
