Penang DAP members called on to close ranks under new leadership

THE Democratic Action Party (DAP) Penang has called on all its members to rally behind the new leadership and work together to strengthen the party following the recently concluded internal elections.

DAP Penang’s Organisation Secretary, Phee Boon Chee, emphasised that the priority now is to foster unity among party members in preparation for upcoming state and general elections. His comments reflect the party's commitment to ensuring a successful campaign in both regional and national polls in the near future.

“After the party elections, it is crucial that we prioritise internal cohesion and collaboration,” Phee stated in a press release on Monday.

“This will enable us to effectively prepare for the state elections in Sabah, Melaka, and Johor, as well as for the general election, which is expected within the next three years.”

Phee stressed the importance of maintaining morale within the party, particularly for those who did not win during the election.

He reminded party members that both victories and losses are a natural part of politics, and that setbacks should not lead to division or resentment.

“Do not be arrogant in victory, and do not despair in defeat. After the party elections, we must set aside our differences and work together harmoniously towards a greater goal. From the grassroots to the highest leadership, we must all unite to ensure that the party remains strong and continues to earn the trust of the people,” he added.

The statement underlined that all members and leaders must adhere to the party’s principles, serve with integrity, and place the welfare of the people as their top priority.

Phee reiterated that only through unity can the party achieve success, urging all members to support the newly elected leadership and work diligently for the well-being of the Malaysian people.

“Congratulations to all comrades who have been chosen to lead the party, and I hope they carry out their responsibilities with dedication for the greater good of the nation,” he added.

Yesterday, a total of 4,203 delegates from 1,650 branches attended the DAP National Congress held at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam.

These delegates were responsible for electing the 30 members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for the 2025-2028 term during DAP’s 18th National Congress on Sunday.

In the election, Gobind Singh Deo emerged victorious, being selected as the new National Chairman of DAP, replacing former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Seremban MP, Anthony Loke, retained his influence within DAP, successfully being re-elected to the CEC. Loke, who is also the Secretary-General of the party, was among the 30 candidates who secured victory in this election, ensuring his place in the party’s new leadership team. – March 17, 2025
