DAP reunites and focuses on winning PRU16 after party election

THE DEMOCRATIC Action Party (DAP) has come together following its recent internal elections, now shifting its focus towards securing victory in the upcoming 16th General Election (PRU16), says newly appointed Deputy Secretary-General Steven Sim Chee Keong.

"Every election will have competition… there will always be contests, but I have emphasised from the very first day that we will all work together, not only to carry out the mandate from the delegates but also to ensure Penang's victory in the upcoming election," Sim stated.

Sim also highlighted the significant role of Penang's delegates in the party leadership election, viewing it as a positive sign for the party's future.

Discussing the preparedness of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Penang for PRU16, especially in Seberang Perai where Perikatan Nasional (PN) made notable gains in the previous election, Sim, who is also the Penang DAP chairman, noted that the party's campaign has been ongoing since the 15th General Election (PRU15).

"DAP Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen in Penang have been actively engaging on the ground and serving the people," Sim added, speaking to the press after the PH Penang Breaking Fast event with media practitioners last night.

Sim, who is also the Human Resources Minister and Member of Parliament for Bukit Mertajam, said that a special team has been deployed specifically to the areas represented by DAP lawmakers in Penang.

However, he emphasised that the party would work together with all members of the Unity Government to ensure victory for coalition partners.

"I believe that in Penang, we have the advantage as both the state and federal governments, so you can see that our elected representatives, whether state assemblymen or Members of Parliament, are extremely hardworking. They are always available for the people," he remarked.

The event was also attended by PH Penang Chairman Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the Chief Minister, and PH Deputy Chairman Dr Zaidi Zakaria, who is the Deputy Chairman of Amanah Negara.

Meanwhile, Chow stated that they aim to lead by example and avoid becoming part of the problem amid the various issues raised by the opposition.

"We want to be part of the solution. I believe we may need to enhance our use of social media to counter the opposition's narrative. This is all very important work, and we will involve all the parties in the Unity Government," he said. – March 22, 2025
